Hi all!
This week we’re tasting through four wines that, despite coming from very different places and varying in style, are all fresh, vibrant, and fruit-driven expressions – in other words, perfect bottles to drink as we weather this latest (and hopefully final!) wave of late-summer heat.
We start with a lively pét nat of Merlot that is vinified in southern Maine from grapes grown on the North Fork of Long Island, NY. Next is a super rare white wine of the red variety Aglianico; it's crisp, fresh, and mineral, with intriguing layers of white fruit. The third wine is a juicy and vibrant blend of Chardonnay, Gamay, and Mondeuse from Bugey, France, which lives in that delightful space between dark rosé and light red. And we’re pleased to end the flight with a very unique Zinfandel from R. O’Neill Latta, one of the most exciting winemakers working in the greater Los Angeles area today. Latta vinifies his wines in Pasadena, but the grapes for this bottling come from Zinfandel vines in Anza in Riverside County. It’s tart, bright, and quite quaffable, but shows pleasant nuance as it evolves in the glass.
