Podere Casaccia Sine Felle Toscana Rosso 2020

The 2020 Sine Felle Rosso is a schooling in stripped back and unadulterated Sangiovese (and then some), and the most soulful wine in Roberto’s stable.  Hailing from the Morettis' old clones and old vines of Sangiovese, Cannaiolo, and Malvasia Nera – averaging 50-60 years old – all cofermented, the wine is raised in old French barrels for batonnage sur lies for 6 months, and aged in oak until bottling. No fining, filtering, or SO2 added. This is a bottle that, at its core retains, a sense of old school rusticity, while at no point forgoing any sense of direction or varietal character; to the contrary, this is as pure and distinct as Tuscan Sangiovese gets! A product of the stellar 2020 vintage, this is a little more overt with its fruit this year – rippling with blackberry, Luxardo cherry, and purple plum. Cinnamon, molasses, cardamom, and crushed purple flowers lend a distinct spicy, floral edge, and intersect with more savory and umami-rich elements like black pepper, leather, and mushroom ragu on the back end. A long, long finish and vibrant acidity temper rustic tannins. Open an hour prior to consumption for best results.
