Tasting Flight - Week of 2/9/26
Hello friends,
We've had a lot of exciting arrivals these past couple weeks, so we're pouring a dynamic line-up of new favorites in our tasting flight this week.
We start with Cantina Furlani's "Alpino Macerato," which we're very excited to have back on the shelf. Furlani is a noteworthy producer in the mountainous Trentino-Alto Adige region of northeast Italy; this is a sparkling wine of Müller-Thurgau, Traminer, and Sauvignon Blanc which sees some skin contact and gets its bubbles from Furlani's signature "metodo interrotto," a sort of hybrid between the pet-nat and Champagne methods.
Next up is a Ribolla Gialla from Oregon producer Maloof. Ribolla is a grape most famously cultivated in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, also in northeast Italy, where celebrated producers like Radikon and Gravner use it to make singular, long-macerated amber wines. Maloof's Ribolla has just a "short stint" of skin contact, producing a textural and subtly savory white wine.
Third in the flight is Fabien Jouves' "Skin Contact," a vibrant orange wine from Cahors in southern France. It's a blend of Gros Manseng, Ugni Blanc, and Muscat of Alexandria (otherwise known as Zibibbo in southern Italy) which sees up to 90 days of maceration on the skins.
Finally, we return to northeast Italy—this time to the Veneto—to taste historic producer Gregoletto's Merlot. We've long been huge fans of Gregoletto's Prosecco sui lieviti, so we're glad to have this soulful, fruit-forward red from them in the shop.
