Vaira Aurelj 2020 Barolo Fossati

Located in Vergne, in the area between the municipalities of Barolo, La Morra and Narzole, Azienda Agricola Vaira Francesco was founded by two brothers.

Francesco and Giacomo inherited their passion for vines and wine from their father, who passed away more than 20 years ago. They wanted to honour him by using his name, “Aurelio”, and opting for the local dialect; they spelt it “Aurelj”.

Their few hectares of micro-plots have a southeast and southwest exposure and are located in the Barolo DOCG area, while others lie just outside at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level. Their composition is characterised by the presence mainly of limestone and clay.

Viticulture: Sustainable, organic practices, biodynamic trials starting in 2022, cover crops, no pesticides or chemical products, only copper and sulfur treatments.

Vinification: Destemmed, no crushing, ambient yeast fermentation, aged in used barrels and barriques, bottled two winters after harvesting.
