Vinho regional de Lisboa, Portugal
Humus Rosé is an organic and natural, barrel-aged rosé wine made by the Portuguese winery Encosta da Quinta in Lisbon with the native Touriga Nacional variety.
Encosta da Quinta is a family project in the Portuguese town of Alvorninga (Lisbon). It is run by Rodrigo Filipe, a self-taught winemaker who produces natural wines out of personal conviction. His work is traditional and intuitive and results in earthy, fresh and light wines.
Planted on the estate lying between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sierra dos Candeerios, in the Óbidos region, the Humus Rosé vines enjoy clay soils and a unique microclimate. They are cultivated using organic agriculture and no chemicals that could affect the natural balance of the terroir or the vine.
In the winery, the Humus Rosé grapes ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine then ages for 12 months in 225-litre oak barrels. It is finally bottled without being clarified, filtered or adding sulphites.
Humus Rosé is an unusual rosé wine that is much more acidic than usual. A wonderful surprise that is a far cry from normality.
